Our Mission
We are passionate about promoting awareness and interest in all aspects of horticulture in the greater Launceston area.
Our history
The Launceston Horticultural Society was established on July 4, 1838, which makes it the oldest continuously running horticultural society in Australia.
For nearly 200 years we have been involved various ways in the Launceston community, sharing the joy that gardening in all its aspects can bring.
For 40+ years we have been involved with Launceston City Park, providing the much-loved feature planting of dahlias each Summer.
Our place in the community
Horticultural societies are crucial yet often overlooked in their contribution to promoting gardening, imparting both technical and artistic skills, and supporting a significant domestic and export industry.
They serve as a vibrant platform for showcasing local and regional beauty, sharing horticultural knowledge and driving social and community change.
Our members are also extensively involved in local horticultural businesses, growing and breeding rare and unusual plants and sharing them with the public.
